The AX5801-0200 is a safety expansion module produced by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Installed on the drive, it introduces integrated safe-stop logic that disconnects torque-producing currents when an emergency or maintenance condition is detected. By adding hardware-level safety inside the motion system, the unit simplifies compliance with machine directives while preserving the fast response expected from servo-based automation.
The module provides field wiring through a pair of 4-pin and 6-pin plug connectors, keeping signal and power leads clearly separated. Internal electronics draw only 50 mA from the control voltage rail, so thermal load on the drive backplane remains negligible. Its feedback circuit is potential-free and referenced to 24 VDC, which allows galvanic isolation from external safety relays or PLC inputs. Fault detection is carried out by a two-channel architecture; both channels must agree before motion is enabled, reducing the chance of a single-point failure. The potential-free nature of the feedback contacts prevents unintended current flow into downstream devices during diagnostic testing.
Up to 0.35 A can pass through each feedback path, covering most light-current sensing applications without auxiliary amplifiers. Output switching is handled by positively driven relay contacts, so the contact position always mirrors the coil state for easier functional checks. The card contains 2 independent relays that share the drive-supplied operating voltage, allowing separate safety chains for axis groups or external brakes. When commanded, its safe-stop block supports the dual-mode functions STO and SS1, enabling immediate torque shutdown or controlled deceleration before power removal. All terminations sit on a 10 mm terminal strip, giving adequate creep distance while fitting inside standard control cabinets.
