Beckhoff’s AX5805-0000 is an option module installed in the AX Digital Servo Drives series to provide integrated safety monitoring for servo axes in automated machinery. The module is supplied as a drive-mounted add-on, allowing the assembled drive system to support safe torque, speed, and position supervision without external relays. In industrial automation, this arrangement shortens signal paths and allows the drive to react quickly when a monitored limit is exceeded. It also helps keep safety functions close to the axis they supervise, which reduces additional panel wiring.
The hardware footprint uses a depth of 54 mm, a height of 100 mm, and a width of 26 mm, so it fits into tight control enclosures without obstructing airflow. When the servo inverter is mounted in its specified vertical orientation, the module shares that installation position and preserves the intended internal convection path. The module carries a protection class of IP20, which means it must be installed behind a closed panel for operator safety. Communication and the Safety over EtherCAT channel are handled through FSoE, and the safe stop command is transmitted through that same safety protocol. Operating power comes directly from the AX5000 Servo Drive, so no separate supply wiring is required.
The option card evaluates motion through several certified functions rather than through a separate external safety device. Safe acceleration monitoring is provided by SMA and SAR, while safe speed supervision uses SSR, SLS, SSM, and SMS, and safe direction is handled through SDIp and SDIn. For immediate power isolation, the safe stop suite of STO, SS1, SS2, SOS is executed through the same safety communication channel, and safe position is supervised by SLP, SCA, and SLI. When the module is installed in an enclosure with a minimum protection rating of IP54, these functions allow the drive system to meet category requirements without additional interlock hardware.
