Product Description:
The AX5811-1 is a safety expansion module developed by Beckhoff for the AX Digital Servo Drives series. Installed alongside the base drive, it monitors internal and external feedback loops and activates force-free stop functions when a hazardous condition is detected. By combining relay logic with drive diagnostics, the card supports drive-integrated safety without adding external wiring complexity. It works as an add-on card within the drive system rather than as a standalone safety controller. This makes it suitable for guarding movable axes in packaging, material-handling, and assembly systems.
Mechanical dimensions are compact, with a width of 105 mm, a height of 53 mm, and a depth of 23 mm. These values allow the module to fit within the standard drive stack while maintaining clearance for convection cooling. Its enclosure has an IP20 rating, so it is intended for installation inside a control cabinet where contact and dust ingress are limited. Electromagnetic behavior conforms to EN 61000-6-2 / EN 61000-6-4, meaning it resists industrial-level radiated and conducted interference and limits its own emissions. The design is classified as Element Class Type B and is intended for contamination level 2, where only non-conductive pollution is permissible. Both the feedback input and the internal relay coil use 24 V DC, which matches typical control-circuit supplies and simplifies power distribution.
Reliability data include a B10d value of 780000 cycles and an overall Performance Level of PL e. Together with an Hft of 1 and a Pfhd of 2.47 × 10⁻⁸, these values show that the module reaches Category 3 capability in safety chains. The integrated logic provides the safe stop functions STO, SS1, allowing either immediate torque removal or a timed ramp-down under supervision. This arrangement lets the safety functions act directly within the servo drive path during fault response. Feedback channels can draw up to 0.35 A, so wiring must support that current while maintaining the required 24 V level.
