Beckhoff’s AMI series integrated drive motors unify a servomotor, drive electronics, and EtherCAT communication interface into a single compact unit.
This all-in-one design (supporting up to 400 W in the 48 V DC range) can be mounted directly on machines as an EtherCAT slave without any control cabinet or intermediate I/O stage, significantly reducing wiring and machine footprint while enabling compact, flexible, and modular machine architectures. The AMI drives also support standardized motion profiles such as the EtherCAT CiA 402 drive profile and offer optional TwinSAFE safety functions like STO (Safe Torque Off) and SS1 (Safe Stop 1) for integrated functional safety. Mechanical versatility is provided via optional features such as holding brakes, shaft seals, and keyed shafts, complemented by integrated absolute encoders (single-turn or battery-free multi-turn) for precise position feedback and standard M8 (EtherCAT) and M12 (power) connectors that ensure robust, industry-standard connectivity. With its space-saving, networked design and smart features, the AMI series exemplifies an Industry 4.0 philosophy geared towards cabinet-free automation in smart manufacturing environments, delivering adaptable high-performance motion solutions across a wide range of industrial applications.
