Product Description:

The EEA-PAM-581-D-33 is a plug-in power amplifier card from Vickers in the EEA-PAM Power Amplifiers series. The board conditions command and feedback signals so a proportional solenoid valve receives the correct current for precise hydraulic flow or pressure control in automated machinery.

It draws logic and drive power from a 24 VDC supply, and the internal reference generator provides +10 VDC so external controllers can scale command voltages without an additional source. When a current command signal is used, the board presents 100 Ω of input impedance, minimizing burden on PLC analog outputs, while the feed-forward input is higher at 6 kΩ, promoting sensitivity to dynamic changes. The output stage can deliver up to 3.2 A of solenoid current, allowing operation of high-force proportional valves. At zero-volt command the amplifier still supplies 1.7 A, a residual bias that helps overcome mechanical friction. A factory deadband compensation of 10 % is preset to linearize the valve around null.

System integration is through a DIN 41612 F48 male connector, which routes command, feedback, and power lines to the cabinet backplane. A dedicated +15 VDC LVDT supply supports position feedback transducers, and sensor current loops encounter 100 Ω of input impedance, while voltage feedback paths face 1 MΩ, preventing loading errors. The voltage command path is buffered by 47 kΩ, so noise picked up on long cables is attenuated. For ramped set-point changes the generator input also sees 10 kΩ, producing predictable RC time constants when external capacitors are added. The reference source can source up to 5 mA, adequate for multiple parallel loads. A 10 kΩ monitor point permits direct oscilloscope connection without affecting the control loop. These remaining attributes complete the card’s signal conditioning and diagnostic functions.

Symptom / Front-panel LED or Test-Jack Reading Probable Cause Practical Troubleshooting Step
24 V LED dark Card is not powered (supply < 20 V DC, blown fuse, reversed polarity) Verify cabinet power-supply output and fuse, correct polarity, then re-apply 24 V.
15 V LED dark while 24 V LED is on On-board ±15 V logic rail missing (regulator failure) Measure ±15 V at test jacks; if absent, replace the regulator section or the whole card.
Enable LED off even though PLC drives > +10 V to pin z24 Enable line actually < +6 V (open PLC output or wiring break) Repair the z24 circuit, restore ≥ +10 V, reseat the card to reset the latch.
Overload LED lit (red) Coil current > 2.5 A (shorted coil or wrong valve fitted) Measure coil resistance, inspect cable for shorts, fit the correct coil; LED clears automatically.
LVDT 1 Fail LED on First feedback transducer open-circuit or out-of-range Check ±15 V sensor supply, repair the 6-pin LVDT cable, re-zero the loop.
LVDT 2 Fail LED on Second feedback channel fault (card supports dual feedback) Repeat Step 5 for the second sensor; both fail LEDs must be off before operation.
Watch-Dog LED flashing Internal micro-controller reset (noise on 24 V or firmware fault) Power-cycle the card; if the LED returns, add 24 V filtering or replace the card.
Ramp pots have no effect / valve jerks Quadrant-ramp bypass link b12–b20 left closed Remove the jumper or route it through a remote switch to re-enable the 4-quadrant ramps.
Command present but no valve motion Set-minimum or Gain pots fully CCW (zero output) Turn both pots clockwise until monitor jack MP1 shows ±0.5 V or more; retest valve stroke.
Card drops out whenever 24 V < 19 V or cabinet > 50 °C Low-voltage or over-temperature protection has tripped Upgrade the PSU or wiring, improve cabinet ventilation, allow board to cool < 45 °C, then restart.
