Product Description:

The EL7332 EtherCAT Terminal is a 2 channel motion control module designed for direct operation of two DC motors. It uses compact drive technology and integrates seamlessly into EtherCAT based automation systems. The unit supports 24 V DC operation and delivers up to 1 A output current per channel. It enables fast efficient motor control in space constrained environments through direct motor connection and diagnostic feedback.

The EL7332 EtherCAT terminal provides a direct motor connection method with one DC output per channel. It supports two independent channels each with one end position input and one motor output. This design allows precise position based feedback and control. The terminal is galvanically isolated from the E bus that ensures signal integrity and safety. The supported load types include inductive DC brush motors. The output stage is safeguarded against overload and short circuit. A shared thermal overload warning system protects both output stages simultaneously. Diagnostic feedback is provided via light emitting diodes. The EL series EtherCAT module weighs approximately 50 g and can operate reliably in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 55°C.

The supply voltage of the Beckhoff EL7332 EtherCAT terminal for both electronics and power is 24 V DC. The maximum output current is 1 A per channel. The model features a 32 kHz PWM clock frequency with 180° phase shift to enable smooth motor control. The EtherCAT terminal modulates its output using pulse width modulation (PWM) where the duty cycle is voltage controlled and varies continuously between 0% and 100%. This allows precise analog equivalent control over the output signal. The resolution is up to 10 bit for current control and 16 bit for speed. Power contact current consumption is approximately 40 mA plus the motor current.

What you see on the terminal Most-likely cause Recommended first fix
RUN LED off → INIT state E-Bus not powered or terminal not yet configured Check E-Bus connector seating and that the TwinCAT master downloaded the configuration; cycle power and re-scan the bus
RUN LED flashing → PRE-OP PDO mapping / mailbox parameters incomplete In TwinCAT → Scan Devices → Reload and Activate Configuration; verify PDO list matches firmware version
RUN LED single-flash → SAFE-OP (outputs inactive) Sync-manager or Distributed-Clocks check failed (often wrong process-data length) Compare process-data size, rebuild the project, or reset terminal to defaults, then re-download
ERROR A/B LED red ON Short-circuit or >1 A overload on the DC-motor channel Disconnect motor leads, measure insulation, clear fault with Reset Node; replace wiring or motor if fault returns
WARNING A/B LED yellow ON 24 V motor supply missing or heatsink > 80 °C Supply correct Up (24 V DC) to pins 3/7; improve cabinet airflow or add ZB8610 fan cartridge
ENABLE A/B LED green OFF (while RUN LED ON) Channel explicitly blocked in PLC or terminal still “not ready” Verify PLC enable bit, ensure no TwinSAFE interlock, and that supply voltage is within 20-30 V range
Recurrent over-temperature warning (yellow) Continuous high RMS current or ambient > 55 °C Lower PWM duty-cycle, shorten motor on-time, add cooling or move the terminal away from heat sources
External fuse trips during start-up Inrush or fault current > 3 × rated current for > 1 s Use time-delay fuse sized ≤ 3 A, check for wiring shorts, verify motor stall current before power-up
SAFE-OP + ERROR combination (RUN single-flash + red ERROR) CoE parameter mismatch or encoder wiring error Read diagnostic 0x10F3, correct scaling / encoder type, then Clear Errors and re-enable outputs
Terminal won’t reach OP; WARN yellow + ENABLE off Up supply undervoltage (<20 V) or missing 0 V return Measure Up at terminal point 3 to point 7 under load; correct wiring or use separate power feed EL92xx module
