Product Description:

The EEA-PAM-525-A-30 is a power amplifier module manufactured by Vickers as part of the EEA-PAM Power Amplifiers series. In an automation rack it converts a regulated DC supply into control, reference, and monitor signals required by electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuators. By combining fixed internal references with external enable logic, it supports closed-loop tasks that need dependable current or voltage drive together with diagnostic feedback.

The board operates from a nominal input of 24 VDC and draws up to 40 W, so cabinet power planners must reserve that budget on the 24 volt rail. It tolerates a maximum supply ripple of ±10%; exceeding that range increases output error and can trigger the undervoltage circuit, which disconnects the load at 18 VDC. Reverse wiring on the supply connector will not damage the card because the line is Protected against polarity reversal. Internal regulators generate the dual control supply, keep ripple below 50 mV peak-to-peak, and limit temperature drift to less than 1 mV / °C for stable operation across the cabinet envelope.

The control supply rails deliver ±15 V at up to 50 mA to external signal conditioners, while the reference output provides ±10 V (±1 %) and 5 mA with less than 20 mV ripple for precise command generation. An enable input with a resistance of 22 kΩ accepts logic from PLC cards; when that terminal rises above 9.8 V, the amplifier engages its outputs. For diagnostics, the monitor pin presents a 10 kΩ impedance and scales line current at 1 V⁄A so controllers can read real-time load demand without additional shunt hardware.

Symptom / LED indication (front panel)

Probable cause

Quick troubleshooting step

24 V LED dark

No or low 24 V DC (< 20 V) or reversed polarity

Measure the cabinet PSU, check fuse & polarity; restore a stable 24 V then repower the card.

15 V LED dark while 24 V LED is on

On-board ±15 V logic rail missing (regulator fault)

Read ±15 V at test jack z22 / b22; if 0 V, replace the regulator or the card.

Enable LED off although PLC sends > +10 V to pin z24

Enable line actually < +6 V (broken PLC output / field wire)

Trace/repair the wire to z24; restore ≥ +10 V; reseat the card to reset the latch.

Overload LED lit

Solenoid current > 1.6 A (shorted coil or wrong valve)

Measure coil resistance, inspect cable for shorts; fit the correct coil – LED clears automatically.

Command present but no valve response

Set-minimum or Gain pots fully CCW

Turn both pots CW until monitor jack MP1 shows ≈ ±0.5 V; retest valve motion.

Ramp pots ineffective / valve jerks

Ramp-bypass link b12–b20 left closed

Remove the jumper or route it through a remote switch to re-enable the single adjustable ramp.

Red LED flashes when command crosses 0 V

Valve wired for opposite polarity

Swap A/B coil wires or change command polarity, then re-zero.

Card drops out when 24 V < 19 V

Low-voltage protection tripped

Upgrade PSU (≥ 50 W) or use thicker conductors to cut voltage drop.

Watchdog LED flashing (if fitted)

Internal microcontroller reset due to noise

Power-cycle the card; add 24 V filtering or replace the card if the fault repeats.

All LEDs extinguish when cabinet > 50 °C

Internal over-temperature shutdown

Improve panel ventilation; allow card to cool below 45 °C before restart.
