Product Description:

The EEA-PAM-525-A-30 power amplifier is a robust and efficient device designed for industrial automation applications requiring precise power control. This power amplifier supports a nominal power supply of 24 V DC at 50 W. It offers advanced protection features and ensures reliable performance across various operational conditions.

This Vickers EEA-PAM-5**-A-30 power amplifiers series module supports an input voltage range of 20 V to 40 V DC including peak to peak ripple tolerances of ± 10 %. If the voltage drops below 18 V DC, this amplifier shuts down to prevent system malfunction. Reverse-polarity protection safeguards this model against incorrect power connections. The amplifier’s signal source capabilities include ± 15 V at 50 mA maximum for z22 and b22 connections with a peak to peak ripple of 50 mV. For z2 and b2, it supports ± 10 V (± 1 %) at 5 mA maximum with a ripple of 20 mV. This module is engineered to maintain a low temperature drift of less than 1 mV/°C (± 0.5 mV/°F) and operates within a temperature range of 32 °F to 122 °F. The output circuits are short circuit protected that enhances the device's resilience against potential electrical faults.

The EEA-PAM-525-A-30 power amplifier also features pulse width modulation (PWM) with built in short circuit protection to prevent damage during operational anomalies. The dither function which is factory-set ensures optimal performance without requiring manual adjustments. This amplifier's ramp time adjustment is preset at the factory but it can be configured within an adjustable range of 50 ms to 5 seconds for both ramp up and ramp down processes with a minimum ramp time of approximately 50 ms. This adjustability provides flexibility for applications requiring customized ramp rates.

Symptom / LED indication (front panel)

Probable cause

Quick troubleshooting step

24 V LED dark

No or low 24 V DC (< 20 V) or reversed polarity

Measure the cabinet PSU, check fuse & polarity; restore a stable 24 V then repower the card.

15 V LED dark while 24 V LED is on

On-board ±15 V logic rail missing (regulator fault)

Read ±15 V at test jack z22 / b22; if 0 V, replace the regulator or the card.

Enable LED off although PLC sends > +10 V to pin z24

Enable line actually < +6 V (broken PLC output / field wire)

Trace/repair the wire to z24; restore ≥ +10 V; reseat the card to reset the latch.

Overload LED lit

Solenoid current > 1.6 A (shorted coil or wrong valve)

Measure coil resistance, inspect cable for shorts; fit the correct coil – LED clears automatically.

Command present but no valve response

Set-minimum or Gain pots fully CCW

Turn both pots CW until monitor jack MP1 shows ≈ ±0.5 V; retest valve motion.

Ramp pots ineffective / valve jerks

Ramp-bypass link b12–b20 left closed

Remove the jumper or route it through a remote switch to re-enable the single adjustable ramp.

Red LED flashes when command crosses 0 V

Valve wired for opposite polarity

Swap A/B coil wires or change command polarity, then re-zero.

Card drops out when 24 V < 19 V

Low-voltage protection tripped

Upgrade PSU (≥ 50 W) or use thicker conductors to cut voltage drop.

Watchdog LED flashing (if fitted)

Internal microcontroller reset due to noise

Power-cycle the card; add 24 V filtering or replace the card if the fault repeats.

All LEDs extinguish when cabinet > 50 °C

Internal over-temperature shutdown

Improve panel ventilation; allow card to cool below 45 °C before restart.
