Cartridge DDR Motors

Cartridge DDR motors from Kollmorgen are synchronous servomotors intended for direct-drive applications where the motor is mounted as a machine component and operated only with servo amplifiers under speed and/or torque control.

They are predominantly designed as high-dynamic drives for rollers in equipment such as printing presses, textile machines, foil processing systems, and packaging machines, where fast response and stable torque delivery are required. Mechanically, the Cartridge DDR design does not include its own bearings or a conventional motor flange; instead, the motor is centered on the machine via a centering/adapter arrangement and the rotor is secured to the machine shaft using a compression coupling, with versions available for continuous shafts using hollow-shaft openings. Electrical integration uses separate connectors for power and encoder signals with preassembled shielded cables, and feedback is provided by high-resolution SinCos encoders (with EnDat or BiSS variants depending on the model) while an electrically isolated PTC thermal sensor in the windings must be evaluated by the drive system. The series is specified for defined ambient conditions (including 5–40 °C at rated values and high allowable humidity without condensation), includes sealed machine-flange protection variants (IP65 or IP64 depending on shaft style), and uses insulation system class F.
