The 8KS Synchronous Motors series sits at the top end of synchronous motor ranges, delivering power levels up to 140 kW with stall torque capabilities hitting 555 Nm and operating speeds that can reach 3000 rpm.
These motors find their niche in servo-hydraulic applications where high power output is essential, particularly when paired with servo pump controllers. The series breaks down into two main frame sizes - size 8 and size 9. Bigger frame numbers mean larger flange dimensions and higher power ratings, which is standard practice across most motor lines. Each size comes in four different motor lengths, so there's flexibility in matching power output to specific application needs while keeping the same mounting footprint. Cooling becomes critical at these power levels, so several options are available. Type C and D motors rely on external centrifugal fans for air cooling. Type J motors step up to water cooling systems, which handle heat rejection much more effectively. The smaller size 8 water-cooled models connect on the right side only, but size 9 units need dual-side connections since they run two independent cooling circuits. There are also Type L and M variants that use axial fans when different airflow patterns work better for the installation. Power connections go through terminal boxes, while encoder connections use speedtec or ITEC circular connectors. Feedback options include LTN resolvers and EnDat encoders. The EnDat systems provide absolute position feedback, which usually means skipping the homing routine during startup - saves time and eliminates one potential failure point.
