What Is the Indramat F268 Error Code?

Indramat is known for its plethora of motion control products that deliver high performance. These products, when operated according to the manufacturer’s operating instructions, can render a high degree of accuracy and last a long time. However, over time, errors can occur and they have to be attended to properly for the motion control system to continue delivering the expected performance.

The Indramat F268 error code is associated with the manufacturer’s DIAX04 range of drive controllers. One of the major functions of the drive controller in a motion control system is controlling and monitoring the operation of the integrated holding brake of the motor. There must be a proper connection between the 0V of the drive controller and the 0V brake supply. The F268 error code gets triggered when the brake current is not within the limits set by the manufacturer due to a brake fault.

Causes for the F268 Error Code

The F268 is a non-fatal error code associated with a non-fatal diagnostic message. However, this error code must be attended to as soon as it occurs to avoid complete failure of the motion control system.

The drive controller monitors the brake current of the holding brake continuously during the operation. When this current is outside the permissible range of 0.4 A to 1.6 A, the controller generates the F268 error code along with the 0.4 - 1.6 * P-0-0511, Break current error message. The brake current value is stored in the P-0-0511 parameter.

There are many reasons why the brake current exceeds the specified limits. These reasons are listed below.

  • The motor cable is not connected properly.
  • The power supply module is defective or not connected properly.
  • The drive controller is defective
  • The holding brake is defective.


How can the F268 error code be fixed?

The F268 error code can be fixed by checking for proper and secure connections between the motor cable and the power supply. The power supply module, drive controller and holding brake must also be checked to identify which is defective and must be changed.

Can the F268 error code be resolved in-house?

It may or may not be possible to resolve the F268 error code in-house, depending on the complexity of the problem. If the fix is simple such as ensuring tight cable connections, this can be done in the premises where the drive controller is used. On the other hand, if the problem is more complicated and involves the replacement of a defective power supply or drive controller, it is best to leave the task to professionals. A defective holding brake calls for a complete motor replacement that is also not recommended to be done in-house.
