It converts digital pulse commands from a microstep drive into precise incremental shaft motion, making it suitable for feeders, small gantries, and indexing tables where repeatable positioning without feedback is acceptable in industrial automation. As a two-phase device, it holds its position magnetically while excitation is maintained, eliminating the need for an external brake in many light-load fixtures.
In continuous operation, the motor can generate a holding torque of 2.15 N·m, allowing clamps or lead-screw loads to remain stationary once pulses stop. Each full step advances the shaft by 1.8° per step, so 200 pulses complete one revolution and enable straightforward angle calculations in control software. The copper windings draw 2 A per phase at standstill. Combined with a phase resistance of 2.5 Ω per phase, this current produces about 10 W of static copper loss per phase, which must be considered when planning heat dissipation. The rotor inertia of 1.45 × 10⁻⁴ kg·m² affects how quickly the axis can accelerate without missing steps.
