Product Description:
The 103F5505-70XB41 is a two-phase stepping motor with an integral power-off brake manufactured by Sanyo Denki and supplied through the StepSyn Stepping Motors series. In positioning tables, indexers, and light conveyor lanes, this motor converts pulse commands from a drive into controlled angular motion and then locks the shaft when power is removed. The brake uses a no-excitation actuation design, so it engages automatically when the control circuitry is disabled, preventing back-driving in vertical or precision-hold axes.
The rotor can maintain a load with a holding torque of 0.13 N·m, and the square mounting face has a 42 mm × 42 mm flange that matches NEMA 17 hole patterns. During emergency stops, the brake reaches full clamping force in 30 ms and releases in 20 ms, minimizing dwell time between commanded motion states. An internal coil rated for DC 24 V ±5% provides the magnetic force that lifts the brake armature, while the no-excitation mechanism allows the unit to default to the locked state. Radial loads up to 35 N at one-third of the shaft length and thrust loads up to 10 N can be applied without exceeding the bearing limits, allowing direct coupling of small pulleys or lead screws. A static friction torque of 0.22 N·m provides additional resistance against shaft movement when the axis is parked.
Continuous-duty operation under the S1 duty cycle is supported with a thermal input of 2 W at an excitation current of 0.08 A, so the windings remain within their insulation limits during constant step holding. The assembled motor and brake measure 64.5 mm from the mounting face to the end cap, allowing installation in compact enclosures. The unit has a mass of 0.38 kg, which limits the additional load placed on a gantry or end-effector assembly. A low rotor inertia of 0.045 × 10⁻⁴ kg·m² enables fast acceleration between index points while keeping overshoot minimal when microstepping profiles are used.
