The Sanyo Denki PMMBA56031 is a stepping motor driver in the PM Drivers series. It receives pulse and direction signals from a PLC or indexer, converts them into controlled phase currents, and positions two-phase hybrid stepper motors used in pick-and-place axes, labelers, and small conveyors. The driver integrates power transistors, pulse-shaping electronics, and protection circuits in one enclosure. This arrangement simplifies panel layouts and shortens wiring runs between the motion controller and the motor windings.

The driver connects to an industrial power source rated at AC 100/115 V and supports a line frequency of 50/60 Hz. Its input section is designed for a single-phase line and draws up to 4 A during full-load acceleration. Internal circuitry tolerates voltage fluctuations of +10% to -15% without losing step accuracy. The 330 Ω input resistance limits current at the logic interface. Insulation resistance is at least 10 MΩ, while the dielectric withstand rating is AC 1500 V for one minute between the power and signal circuits. The optically isolated interface accepts a maximum pulse rate of 100 kpulses/s, allowing the driver to process high-speed command trains without losing pulses.

The aluminum housing is only 39 mm wide, 170 mm deep, and 135 mm high, allowing closely spaced installation inside control panels. Two mounting holes are tapped M4 × 0.7 and positioned at a pitch of 105 ± 0.5 mm for alignment with a backplate. The assembly weighs 1.2 kg, which reduces the load placed on lightweight control panels. The internal translator supports either full-step or half-step operation, and the preferred mode is selected through DIP switches. Its pulse-processing stage supports rapid index moves while maintaining the commanded step sequence. The compact enclosure can be installed where available panel width is limited, while its depth and height provide sufficient space for the internal power and control circuits.
