The PMM-UA-4304-1 is a stepping-motor driver module supplied by Sanyo Denki within the PM Drivers series. It converts command pulses from a motion controller into phase currents that index a two-phase hybrid motor, allowing automated equipment to position loads in precise angular increments. Designed for panel installation beside PLC hardware, the unit accepts a single-phase 100 VAC power supply and provides alarm signaling so upstream control logic can respond to thermal or wiring faults.
The driver’s protection circuit supplies an alarm current of up to 5 mA maximum at a voltage of up to 30 VDC maximum. This open-collector output can connect directly to low-voltage inputs on standard I/O cards. Motion resolution is selectable between a full-step increment of 1.8° per pulse and a half-step increment of 0.9° per pulse, allowing the system to balance operating speed with positioning precision. Each phase is rated at 4 A per phase, making the driver suitable for mid-frame motors that require moderate torque without an oversized power stage. The input circuit has a resistance of 150 Ω and operates with a line frequency of 50 or 60 Hz. Command pulses must remain within a 50% duty cycle to protect the optoisolators. Insulation resistance is at least 10 MΩ, and the output current capability reaches 5 A to accommodate transient demand.
The command interface accepts pulse rates up to 20 kpulses/s, supporting rapid indexing in pick-and-place heads and small gantry axes. An internal thermostat issues an overheat alarm when the heat-sink temperature reaches at least 80 °C, helping protect the motor coils and driver electronics. The chassis withstands vibration of 4.9 m/s² during operation. Its aluminum construction has a mass of 3 kg, which reduces the load placed on the enclosure mounting surface. The input and output sections provide a dielectric strength of AC 1000 V for one minute. This electrical isolation helps prevent line-side voltage from reaching command and alarm circuits during normal operation or a fault condition.
