The SC756A-080-02 is a servo controller produced by Pacific Scientific for the SC750 Servo Drives series. It connects a three-phase mains supply to a brushless servo motor, providing regulated power and motion commands for automated pick-and-place modules, indexing tables, and packaging lines. The unit interprets position data and issues phase-accurate current commands, coordinating motor position and velocity with millisecond response times for repeatable operation in industrial automation cells. Its integrated control and power functions reduce the need for separate components between the main control system and the connected motor.
The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 60 A, enabling rated torque on medium-frame servo motors during extended production runs. During rapid acceleration, the current loop can rise to 120 A, supplying the additional electromagnetic force needed to overcome inertia without saturating the power devices. At peak output, the available mechanical shaft power can reach 36,000 W, so the DC bus and switching elements accommodate high transient energy flow. The maximum internal power loss is 600 W, and this heat must be removed to keep the internal components within their allowable operating temperatures. Cooling is provided by natural convection and built-in fans, allowing heat to move away from the power electronics without requiring external ducting in most properly ventilated cabinets.
The control section uses a programmable digital position controller, allowing tuning parameters, motion profiles, and I/O logic to be stored locally and executed without a separate motion card. The motor control loop uses resolver feedback, which supplies rotor-angle information and maintains accurate commutation throughout the operating speed range. With a shipping mass of 40.86 kg, the chassis requires panel mounting with adequate stud support and a mounting surface capable of carrying its weight. Sufficient clearance should also be maintained around the housing so that convection airflow and fan discharge are not obstructed. Pacific Scientific recommends supplying the unit from a 10 to 15 kVA isolation transformer to limit the effects of line disturbances and reduce their transmission to adjacent equipment.
