Industrial motion systems use this unit to supply regulated three-phase power while supervising motor position and speed, making it a compact command element within packaging, material-handling, and general automation cells.
Internally the controller draws bus power from a 240 Vac three-phase supply; that line is rectified to a 320 Vdc bus that can deliver up to 18 Arms of continuous current to the inverter stage. Under nominal conditions it supplies 15 A of sinusoidal phase current, translating to a continuous mechanical output of 4.5 kW when fed from the same 240 Vac source. For rapid acceleration, the drive can momentarily furnish 30 A and relies on pulse-width modulation at 20 kHz to limit current ripple. The closed-loop firmware implements a torque/velocity controller, and position error is limited to ±22 arcmin when resolver feedback is emulated as an encoder. The 240 Vac bus ratings align with the 720 Series identifier and place the unit within Pacific Scientific’s SC720 family of servo controllers.
Peak power handling extends to 9 kW, a level managed through a 200 W continuous shunt resistor that can absorb regenerated energy and protect the bus up to a 20 kW peak. Analog speed commands enter on a differential ±10 V input; thermal drift of that channel is 50 mV/°C, preserving low-speed stability. The current monitor outputs 0.16 V for every ampere to external diagnostics, and a 12-bit RDC resolver chain feeds an encoder emulator that generates 1024 ppr quadrature signals for controllers that prefer digital feedback.
