In automated cells, the unit forms the interface between the plant’s power bus and the motor, enabling repeatable speed, tension, or force control on conveyors, winders, and pick-and-place stations. This operating role makes it suitable for systems that need stable motor response during changing process loads.
The DC link is charged from a 240 VAC three-phase mains supply and delivers a steady bus current of 18 Arms. The output stage can supply 15 A continuously, converting stored energy into about 4.5 kW of mechanical power while the bus remains at 320 Vdc. Carrier switching occurs at 20 kHz, pushing acoustic noise beyond the audible band and helping reduce torque ripple. Control electronics are fed separately from a 90 to 264 VAC single-phase source, so command handling and stored parameters can remain available during mains interruptions. Resolver data are digitized with 12-bit RDC precision, and a braking resistor absorbs 200 W in steady state or 20 kW during rapid deceleration. This arrangement separates the control supply from the power stage and helps preserve feedback processing when the main motor input is disturbed.
For transient demands, the amplifier can deliver a peak output of 30 A, allowing bursts up to 9 kW before timed foldback protects the IGBTs. An encoder emulator reproduces 1024 ppr square-wave channels so legacy position controllers can read the resolver track without additional hardware. The analog velocity command range is ±10 V, and closed-loop accuracy is specified at ±22 arcmin. Regenerative energy that exceeds the continuous shunt limit is diverted to a path rated for short-duration braking duty. The aluminum chassis, integral heat sink, and filter assembly bring the overall mass to 40 lbs, which supports thermal stability in panel-mounted installations.
