Product Description:
The SC453 is a programmable digital position controller supplied by Pacific Scientific within the SC450 Brushless Servo Controllers series. As a stand-alone servo controller, it governs brushless servomotors by driving phase currents, tracking commanded motion profiles, and closing the position loop for automated machinery. In industrial automation cells, it converts PLC step references into precise rotor angles, allowing packaging axes, pick-and-place gantries, or indexing tables to achieve repeatable motion without external power stages.
At 115 or 230 VAC, the controller can deliver a continuous output of 7.5 A, which indicates the thermal steady-state current its power electronics can supply without derating. For rapid accelerations, the current limit rises to 15.0 A, giving twice the continuous rating for brief intervals so that inertia-heavy loads reach speed quickly. When operated on a 230 VAC supply, it can return up to 4500 W of power to the motor windings, while an internal chopper stage modulates that energy at 15 kHz to keep torque ripple low. Position feedback is obtained from a resolver, and the motion processor interpolates each electrical revolution into 4096 steps per rev, which supports fine positioning and reduced following error.
The unit functions between 0 to 50 °C, so cabinet ventilation must keep ambient air within this range during operation. It safely endures non-operating periods from -55 to 70 °C without degradation, and an enclosure mass of 5.0 kg keeps it suitable for panel mounting while still providing useful thermal mass. The controller can index through a span of 0 to 100,000,000 steps, allowing long travel lengths to be mapped without rescaling. This range supports positioning applications that require large command spans across extended machine travel.
