Product Description:
The SC452-012-05 is produced by Pacific Scientific as part of the SC450 Brushless Servo Controllers series. Working as a programmable digital position controller, it provides closed-loop current and velocity commands to brushless servomotors that drive coordinated axes in automated assembly lines and material-handling stations. Through resolver feedback, it acquires precise rotor angle information and, together with PacSci ServoBASIC programming, translates motion profiles into real-time output signals for repeatable positioning tasks.
During continuous operation on a 115 VAC supply, the controller delivers 4.2 A of phase current, while a 230 VAC line allows 3.5 A without exceeding thermal limits. Transient moves can be supplied with a peak current of 7.0 A, giving extra torque for acceleration or rapid indexing. When connected to a 230 VAC source, the drive can output up to 2000 W to the motor windings, and its PWM stage switches at 20 kHz so current ripple remains well above audible frequencies and below the mechanical bandwidth of most loads. Commanded positions are decoded at a native resolution of 4096 steps per rev, enabling fine interpolation of the resolver signal and smooth low-speed motion.
The numerical position manager spans a range from 0 to 100,000,000 steps, providing ample headroom for long-travel systems or multi-turn rotary tables. Under standard ambient conditions, the unit holds accuracy within 15 arcmin, a tolerance suitable for pick-and-place nests, indexing heads, and moderate-precision gantries. Electronics are rated for an ambient range of 0 to 50 °C; operation outside this band risks derating, although storage down to −55 °C and up to 70 °C is permissible when power is removed. The metal enclosure and internal heat sink bring total mass to 2.7 kg, which is light enough for panel mounting while still providing sufficient thermal inertia for continuous-duty servo loops.
