The SC403-014 is a servo drive manufactured by Pacific Scientific for the SC400 Servo Drives series. It links plant power to a brushless servomotor, converting the mains supply into controlled, feedback-regulated current. By following motion commands from a PLC or indexer, the unit governs motor speed and torque, enabling precise positioning, consistent line speeds, and repeatable cycle times across automated packaging, assembly, and material-handling equipment.
The input stage accepts 115/230 VAC (+10, -15%), allowing installation on either 115 V or 230 V utility feeds. This supply is rectified to a nominal bus of 160/320 VDC, which sets the maximum motor voltage the inverter can produce. The drive supports velocity or torque control, so it can regulate constant line speed or maintain process tension as required by the application. The power section delivers 7.50 A continuous and 15 A peak; the higher peak supports rapid acceleration, while the continuous rating supports thermal steady-state operation. A magnetically and optically isolated output bridge separates high-frequency switching nodes from analog references, reducing conducted noise and ground-loop problems.
A board-mounted potentiometer provides peak current limit adjustment, allowing the drive to restrict surge current without external programming changes. Short-circuit and overload faults trip an integral fuse, so external branch protection can be sized for wiring rather than semiconductor limits. The mains terminals are MOV protected, providing transient suppression against utility spikes that could otherwise stress the DC bus capacitors.
