The SC402-014-T2 is a servo drive built by Pacific Scientific within the SC400 Servo Drives series. Designed for industrial automation, the unit converts AC mains power into commanded armature current so a brushless motor can deliver repeatable torque and speed. By integrating power conversion, current regulation, and protective diagnostics, the drive forms the interface between a motion controller and the motor in packaging, material-handling, and assembly equipment. It accepts velocity or torque references from external analog sources and conditions tachometer feedback to maintain setpoint accuracy.
With a 115 VAC supply, the internal DC bus is regulated at 160 VDC, while operation on 230 VAC raises the bus voltage to 320 VDC. These levels set the maximum motor back EMF that the drive can tolerate before current limiting occurs. Continuous phase current reaches 4.2 A on the lower input range and 3.5 A on the higher range; both are controlled by a current loop that sustains a closed-loop bandwidth of 3 kHz. For short bursts, the amplifier can deliver a peak current of 7.0 A to accelerate inertial loads. The ±10 V velocity command passes through a 50 kΩ input network that minimizes loading on upstream motion cards. A 4.4 V full-scale current monitor provides real-time feedback for system adjustment.
The power capability scales with the mains level; the drive can supply 1000 W from the lower input range and 2000 W from the higher input range, providing flexibility without requiring equipment changes. Efficiency at rated output is greater than 90%, reducing heat generation and cabinet ventilation requirements. Internal pulse-width modulation operates at an output ripple frequency of 20 kHz, placing switching noise above the audible range and improving motor smoothness. A 0.63 V/A calibration factor on the current monitor converts measured current into a proportional voltage, simplifying oscilloscope measurements during system setup. The open-collector fault output, with a 30 V rating and a 25 mA sink capacity, provides a hardwired status signal for safety circuits.
