The SC402-011-14 servo drive is produced by Pacific Scientific and belongs to the SC400 Servo Drives series. As a velocity and current regulator intended for brushless servo motors, it takes single-phase or three-phase mains power and converts it into a controlled DC bus and PWM output. It is used in packaging machinery and pick-and-place gantries where precise torque and speed control are needed.
The drive establishes a DC bus of 160 VDC when supplied by 115 VAC mains and increases it to 320 VDC on 230 VAC lines, so the internal power devices receive consistent energy storage based on the installation voltage. Under continuous duty, it delivers 4.2 A RMS from the 115 VAC rail or 3.5 A RMS from the 230 VAC rail, while transient loads can draw up to 7.0 A for acceleration or disturbance rejection. Pulse-width modulation switches at 20 kHz, keeping torque ripple low and audible noise outside most mechanical resonance bands. Command inputs have an impedance of at least 50 kΩ, allowing motion controllers to drive the reference without additional buffers. A fault transistor sinks 25 mA at 30 VDC to signal overtemperature, bus undervoltage, or output-stage trips.
At higher demand, the unit can supply mechanical power up to 1000 W from a 115 VAC source or 2000 W from a 230 VAC source, permitting mid-frame servo motors to reach rated torque without derating. The closed-loop current regulator maintains a bandwidth of 3 kHz, allowing the drive to follow dynamic profiles transmitted through the differential velocity command port, which accepts a range of ±10 V. An auxiliary 24 V supply pin draws only 10 mA, so the internal logic remains active with negligible load on the control cabinet supply. For diagnostics, the current monitor outputs 0.63 V per ampere and saturates at 4.4 V, providing a linear view of phase current during operation. The reference stage limits offset drift to 50 µV per °C, which stabilizes low-speed motion even in warm panels.
