The SC153-010-05 is a brushless servo controller developed by Pacific Scientific as part of the SC100 Brushless Servo Controllers series. Designed for panel-mounted use, the unit converts fixed mains power into regulated DC power and a three-phase output that commands low-inertia servo motors during indexing, conveying, and coordinated motion tasks on automated equipment. By closing the torque and velocity loops inside the drive, it offloads the PLC while still allowing high-resolution positioning through external command inputs. This arrangement enables the controller to regulate motor behavior directly while receiving motion commands from the larger automation system.
The power stage charges its DC bus to 320 VDC, a level that balances energy storage with semiconductor stress during rapid motor acceleration. The controller accepts a supply of 230 VAC (+10%, -15%) across an input frequency range of 47–63 Hz, allowing operation on different utility grids without transformer tap changes. Pulse-width modulation operates at a carrier frequency of 5 kHz, which helps reduce audible noise while controlling switching losses and thermal rise. Under nominal load, overall power conversion efficiency exceeds 95%, reducing heat generation inside the cabinet and limiting the demand placed on ancillary cooling equipment. The regulated output supplies the motor phases with the controlled electrical power needed for responsive acceleration, steady speed, and repeatable deceleration.
Full electrical performance is maintained across an operating temperature range of 0 °C to 50 °C, allowing the drive to operate in standard factory enclosures without dedicated climate control. During storage or transportation, the noncondensing electronics tolerate temperatures as low as -55 °C. The permitted upper storage temperature is 70 °C, providing a broad inactive temperature range before installation. Moisture must remain noncondensing during storage and transportation to protect the internal electronic components. Panel placement should provide sufficient surrounding airflow so heat produced by the power stage can leave the enclosure during sustained operation.
