The R48GENA-R2-NS-NV-00 is an AC servo motor manufactured by Pacific Scientific and supplied within the R Servomotors series. In motion-control loops, it acts as an electromagnetic actuator that translates current commands from a digital drive into precisely controlled torque and velocity. The motor is suitable for pick-and-place axes, indexing conveyors, and web-tension stations that require consistent dynamic response and repeatable positioning. Its servo design allows a compatible drive to regulate motion as operating loads and commanded speeds change.
Its electromagnetic core employs rare-earth samarium-cobalt magnets, whose high coercivity sustains magnetic flux at elevated temperatures and maintains torque linearity across demanding duty cycles. Rotor position is measured by a frameless, transmitter-type size 21 resolver, which mounts directly on the shaft and provides analog sine and cosine signals. When paired with a compatible R-series drive, the resolver supports 12-bit resolution for accurate position measurement and closed-loop control. An English mounting flange matches NEMA dimensions, allowing the motor to connect to compatible machine interfaces without spacer plates. The standard housing has a smooth cylindrical body that accommodates clamp-ring or foot mounting while permitting airflow around the exterior. Internally, a standard winding balances phase resistance and inductance so the motor can reach its intended operating speeds without exceeding the current limits of a suitable inverter.
The unit is supplied with no brake, so an external holding mechanism is required when a vertical load must remain stationary after power is removed. It also has no shaft seal, which reduces shaft friction but makes the motor unsuitable for locations exposed to washdown spray or oil splashes unless suitable external protection is provided. The motor includes no secondary feedback, allowing one resolver cable to carry the position signals required by the drive. This arrangement reduces the number of control conductors routed through cable carriers and leaves more space for motor power wiring. The absence of these accessories also reduces the rotating and housing mass while preserving the primary resolver-based control arrangement.
