Product Description:
The P21NSXS-LSS-NS-09 is a hybrid stepper motor manufactured by Pacific Scientific as part of the POWERMAX II P Motors series. Designed for open-loop positioning and speed regulation, the unit converts digital pulse trains from indexers or PLCs into precise angular motion for pick-and-place heads, small conveyors, and metering pumps. Its standard rotor and two-phase winding provide incremental torque without feedback, allowing machine builders to implement economical motion axes that repeat commanded positions within tight mechanical tolerances. The motor responds to a sequence of electrical pulses, with each pulse commanding a controlled change in shaft position.
The stator has two phases and advances the shaft by 1.8 degrees per full step, providing 200 discrete positions during each revolution. For finer interpolation, the drive can use microstepping, while the inherent step accuracy remains within ±1.5% to limit cumulative error over multiple indexing movements. The motor has a mechanical stack count of 1, which keeps rotor inertia moderate and supports the rapid start-and-stop cycles common in light automation. Because no encoder is installed, the pulse count determines the commanded position. Tension-free couplings and conservative load inertia help prevent missed steps during acceleration, deceleration, or sudden load changes.
The unit follows the NEMA 23 dimensional standard and has a 57.10 mm square flange that mates directly with compatible gearboxes or adapter plates. A pilot diameter of 38.10 mm centers the shaft, while a 66.68 mm bolt circle with 5.08 mm holes supports secure face mounting. Class B windings tolerate temperatures up to 130 °C. The insulation resistance is 100 megohms at ambient temperature, and the dielectric strength is 340 VDC. The motor can operate in ambient temperatures from -20 °C to +40 °C without derating. Adequate enclosure airflow should be maintained to prevent localized heat from accumulating inside the motor during extended operation.
