It converts pulse trains from a stepper drive into controlled shaft rotation, providing economical open-loop positioning for small conveyors, fluid metering pumps, and pick-and-place axes in automated equipment. Because no feedback device is fitted, motion control is entirely open loop. That makes the motor suitable for indexing, dosing, and transfer tasks where commanded step counts are expected to produce repeatable shaft movement.

It incorporates two electrical phases, giving the rotor a basic step of 1.8 degrees and therefore 200 discrete positions per revolution.
