Product Description:
Pacific Scientific’s PMA42M-01100-00 is a brushless servomotor in the PMA Brushless Motors series. It is intended for CNC positioning stages, pick-and-place robots, and material-handling gantries where commanded current is converted into controlled shaft rotation. As part of an integrated motion loop, the motor reports rotor position through its built-in resolver so a servo controller can modulate torque in real time and keep mechanical error low during repetitive duty cycles. This arrangement supports accurate starts, stops, and speed changes across automated axis movements.
At continuous load, the motor can deliver 4.1 Nm of stall torque, which is the steady torque available without exceeding thermal limits. For short acceleration bursts, it reaches 14.6 Nm, giving the machine temporary torque reserve for overcoming inertia or friction. Dynamic response is helped by a rotor inertia of 0.36 kg·m² × 10⁻³, so speed changes can occur quickly without excessive lag. Current demand at the rated stall point is 2.7 ARMS, which is useful when matching the drive and cabling to the motor. The three-phase winding is grouped for the 240–480 V AC voltage class, making the motor compatible with standard industrial mains and regenerative servo amplifiers.
The motor has a 115 mm square frame, and the power leads exit through a right-angle connector that mates with a 6PP six-pin plug to keep the cable bundle within machine envelopes. A factory-mounted 24 V brake locks the smooth steel shaft when power is removed, helping maintain axis position on vertical loads. Overall mass is 6.2 kg, which should be considered when arranging the mounting structure. The motor also has a smooth shaft for direct-coupled couplings, which suits compact transmission layouts. It uses stack length code 2, indicating the installed active iron length, and it comes without special design additions.
