Product Description:

The PCE835-XYZ-A is a brushless servo drive produced by Pacific Scientific within the PC800-PCE800 Brushless Servo Drives series. Designed to sit between the power mains and a synchronous servo motor, it converts the incoming three-phase 480 VAC supply into regulated current and velocity commands, allowing closed-loop positioning, speed, or torque control in automated machinery such as packaging lines or pick-and-place gantries. Pacific Scientific recommends a 30 A line fuse to coordinate with the protection hardware and help safeguard upstream feeders.

The drive delivers a continuous phase output of 7.5 ARMS, meaning it can sustain that root-mean-square current without overheating during steady operation. At 480 VAC, this corresponds to 5.6 kW of continuous mechanical power available to the connected motor. The current loop executes every 62.5 µs, so torque commands are refreshed 16,000 times per second to minimize error during fast transients. A power-stage efficiency of 97% limits heat dissipation and eases enclosure cooling requirements. During energization, the line side can experience 175 A of inrush, so input contactors and cabling must be sized to withstand that brief surge.

For peak events, the controller can source 22.5 ARMS for several seconds, enabling short bursts of acceleration that raise shaft output to 19.2 kW. Indexing, RS-232/485 serial, step-and-direction, and ±10 V analog ports allow the host PLC to stream motion profiles at rates up to 800 kHz when step commands are used. Motor leads may be extended to 50 m before additional line reactors are required, letting the drive remain in a centralized cabinet. An internal 100 W regeneration circuit with 33 Ω resistance dissipates light overvoltage events, while a 20 kW shunt regulator port is provided for heavier braking energy.
