The PC832-001-N brushless servo drive is produced by Pacific Scientific as part of the PC800–PCE800 Brushless Servo Drives series. Designed for cabinet-level installation, this unit converts a 240 VAC three-phase supply into controlled, low-ripple DC and PWM output for permanent-magnet servomotors. In factory automation cells, it supplies tightly regulated torque and speed commands so pick-and-place axes, feeders, or indexers can maintain repeatable motion profiles. Integrated dynamic-braking circuitry allows the module to dissipate regenerated energy without external hardware, which helps keep panel layouts compact.
It delivers up to 1.1 kW of continuous shaft power while the power stage conducts a steady 2.7 ARMS to the motor phases. At rated load, the mains side draws only 4.5 A, which is useful when selecting branch protection. Encoder and power cabling can span 50 m, so the drive may be installed remotely from moving axes if the motor inductance stays below 4 H. The inner current loop reacts every 50 µs, allowing overload bursts to reach a peak of 7.5 A for rapid acceleration. A minimum motor inductance of 4.0 mH is required to avoid excessive ripple, and the switching network operates at a 20 kHz carrier to move audible noise above the normal hearing range. Peak output current of 5.3 ARMS is available for five seconds during demanding moves.
The transient energy created by decelerating loads is handled internally, and the bus capacitors can absorb 20 J before shunting begins. When that limit is reached, the braking resistor can dissipate 800 W continuously and as much as 12.8 kW in short bursts, provided the regenerative duty cycle stays under 6%. In ideal conditions, the inverter can supply 2.25 kW of instantaneous mechanical power while maintaining a power-stage efficiency of 98 %. At 1.9 kg, the housing is light enough for DIN-rail or bulkhead mounting without additional structural support.
