The OCE950-501-01 from Pacific Scientific delivers multiple communication abilities as an OC950 Option Card.

As an entry-level OC950 product, this option card connects and controls with its built-in RS-232/RS-485 serial ports. Users can select address settings while the communication speed options at 9600 or 19200 occur through software control. The data communication system operates with no parity using 10-bit words (1 start bit, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit) to support standard serial communication standards. Users can plug the 9-contact female D-subminiature connector to control systems because of its design. The device has 21 selectable I/O channels that support both inbound and outbound signals. Each programmed channel works from 5 to 24V of logic voltage while having a tolerance up to 40V absolute maximum. The pull-up resistors set to 10 kΩ link each channel directly to the +12 VDC supply and define clear switching points from high to low between 3.5 V and 1.0 V with hysteresis varying from 0.5 V to 1.5 V.

An input RC filter with 100-microsecond constant reduces noise to support better transmission of digital signals. Each channel contains an open-drain DMOS transistor enabling it to ground up to 100 mA of electrical current. At normal operating temperatures (up to 125°C), the transistor for drain-to-source operation shows resistance of about 5 ohms with a maximum range of 9.5 ohms. The card also supplies user-accessible +5 V power with a ±5% tolerance and a maximum current of 200 mA across specified pins. The card provides 32K x 8 battery-backed NVRAM with 10-year data storage and unlimited write capability. It can be purchased at Wake Industrial with a one-year warranty.
