Product Description:
Pacific Scientific produced the OCE950-501-01, a plug-in I/O and communications card in the OC950 Option Cards series. Installed in the backplane of a compatible controller, the board adds digital lines and a dual-standard serial port so a motion system can gather machine signals, drive relays, or exchange setup data with supervisory equipment. Consolidating discrete control and serial diagnostics on one compact printed circuit board reduces cabinet wiring and frees the host processor to perform motion algorithms.
The digital section uses a 10-bit data word, providing adequate resolution for register addressing without expanding the host bus. All discrete points are arranged as 21 bidirectional I/O channels, and the direction of each channel is set through software. Configuration values reside in a 32K × 8 NVRAM, allowing machine parameters to survive a loss of power. Serial diagnostics travel over a selectable RS-232/RS-485 port that terminates at a 9-contact female D-Sub connector, and no parity bits are added. A 100 µs input filter suppresses contact bounce. Logic-high and logic-low states use rising and falling thresholds of 3.5 V and 1.0 V, respectively, together with a 10 kΩ pull-up resistor connected to +12 VDC. The board can provide up to 200 mA of user supply current to connected field devices.
Output circuitry uses an open-drain DMOS transistor stage, allowing each line to pull the field voltage to ground without sourcing current. The outputs are connected through a 25-contact female D-Sub that matches the pinout used across the OC950 family. Each channel has a 100 mA sinking capacity, which is adequate for directly driving LEDs, small solenoids, or optocoupler inputs when the external devices share a common return. All logic is referenced to a 5 V ±5% user supply, allowing the board to interface with standard TTL or CMOS sensors while maintaining suitable noise margins inside typical control cabinets.
