The OC950-604-01 is an option card produced by Pacific Scientific for integration within the OC950 Option Cards series. As a plug-in accessory, it extends controller connectivity and nonvolatile data storage for industrial automation and machine-control equipment, allowing field devices to be attached and configuration data to be stored directly on the controller backplane. This product is designed for installation in compatible motion or process controllers, giving them additional serial links, user I/O points, and battery-free memory for parameter retention during normal operation and power loss.

The card provides a dual-protocol serial interface selectable between RS-232/RS-485, and each port can operate at 19200 or 9600 bits per second. Its digital lines accept a logic range of 5 to 24 V, and there are 21 bidirectional channels that can be assigned as inputs or outputs. Any output can sink up to 100 mA, so lamps, solid-state relays, and similar low-current loads can be driven directly. Control power is taken from the backplane, where a regulated 5 VDC ±5% rail is required and up to 200 mA is drawn when every I/O point is active. Configuration data reside in an internal nonvolatile RAM array measuring 128 k × 8, removing the need for removable media.

For distributed architectures, the card links to the proprietary PacLAN coaxial bus used by compatible controllers. Data moves across the network at 2.5 MBaud over RG62U cabling with controlled impedance, and a 93 Ω terminator is fitted at each end to suppress reflections. An individual bus can stretch to 305 m, and up to eight controllers may share a segment; multiple segments can then be combined into clusters of up to 255 controllers through repeaters. NVRAM retention lasts up to 10 years, so stored programs and machine counts can remain available through power outages without batteries.
