Designed for panel-mounted installation, the unit conditions logic or analog references into phased current that positions hybrid stepper motors in automated machinery. By pairing with CNC controllers or PLCs, the drive converts high-level motion commands into precise velocity or incremental moves, making it a core component in pick-and-place heads, indexing tables, and laboratory instrumentation.
The power stage can deliver a continuous phase current of 3 A, translating into 220 W of sustained mechanical output when matched to an appropriate motor. Thermal load on the enclosure is limited because internal dissipation is held to 30 W or less. Command integrity is maintained by an internal pulse counter that accepts differential step inputs up to 2 MHz, supporting sub-microstep resolution at high traverse speeds. Two analog channels are present, and each is sampled with 10-bit resolution so velocity or torque loops can be tuned from external potentiometers or process signals. For setup and diagnostic logging, a built-in RS-232 port complements the drive’s RS-422 and RS-485 links.
During rapid deceleration, excess kinetic energy is directed to a dynamic brake that can absorb bursts of 1 kW through an onboard resistor network rated at 180 W continuously with an impedance of 26 ohms. The auxiliary Drive-OK output sources up to 50 mA, allowing the host controller to engage a mechanical brake or flag faults without external relays. Five optically isolated digital inputs select among velocity, step-and-direction, step-positive-and-negative, or quadrature control modes, while differential encoder feedback verifies the final position. With dimensions of 1.65 × 5.15 × 3.46 inches, the housing fits densely populated cabinets while leaving space for airflow and field wiring.
