The 6420-001-H-K is a single-axis stepper drive produced by Pacific Scientific for the 6410 Stepper Drives series. It converts low-voltage DC power into precisely timed phase currents that advance compatible hybrid stepper motors one microstep at a time. The unit is typically installed in automated pick-and-place heads, indexing tables, or small conveyor systems where compact size and repeatable positioning are important. Its single-axis design provides dedicated motion control for machinery that requires accurate incremental movement from one motor.
The drive operates from DC buses between 24 V DC and 75 V DC, allowing it to work with common control supplies or higher-voltage power sources. In microstepping mode, the power stage supplies up to 7.1 A peak, while full-step operation is limited to 5 A. Resolution is selected through onboard switches, with available settings of 50,000 steps per revolution, 51,200 steps per revolution, or 20,000 steps per revolution. These resolution choices support applications that require different combinations of motion range, smoothness, and positioning precision. Command data reach the drive through an asynchronous communication link operating at 9,600 bps. Continuous operation is permitted at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C, and the selected binary or decimal resolution table remains available after power-up.
The output stage provides a continuous rating of 5 A RMS, supplying current for sustained motor operation and holding torque during extended dwell periods. The drive has eight optically isolated terminals that can be configured as inputs or outputs for functions such as drive enable, status signaling, or limit sensing. Application parameters, user sequences, and fault histories are retained in 1,792 bytes of NVRAM, allowing stored operating data to remain available after a power cycle. The enclosure measures 5 × 1.5 × 4.3 inches, which allows installation in electrical panels with limited space. The metal chassis can reach 60 °C during operation, so the installation must provide suitable clearance and ventilation. When powered down, the drive can be stored at temperatures from -55 °C to 70 °C.
