The 6410-022-N-N-N is a DC-powered microstepping drive from Pacific Scientific, supplied under the 6410 Stepper Drives series. The unit converts step and direction pulses into regulated phase currents for hybrid stepper motors used on positioning stages, pick-and-place heads, and light indexing conveyors. As a standalone chassis module, it fits between a motion controller and a two-phase motor, delivering the current shaping and thermal supervision needed in industrial automation.
Current regulation is performed by a chopper that switches at 20 kHz, a frequency high enough to move switching noise outside the audible band. The power stage can deliver up to 5.0 A RMS per phase, allowing the drive to run many NEMA 23 and NEMA 34 motors at their rated torque. A wide input range from 24 VDC to 75 VDC allows the drive to share power supplies with other low-voltage actuators while supporting higher motor speeds on a 75 V bus. Optically isolated step inputs draw only 5.5 mA, reducing the load placed on the connected motion controller. An internal 500 µs enable delay allows phase currents to stabilize before motion begins. At its native resolution, the drive advances the shaft in full-step increments of 200 steps/rev, matching the mechanical detent pattern of standard 1.8-degree motors.
For finer positioning, the microstep generator expands resolution to 51,200 steps/rev, minimizing low-speed ripple and improving small-angle repeatability. Torque sequencing is handled by the two-phase bipolar output topology, keeping coil excitation symmetrical across all step ratios. The aluminum chassis can operate at temperatures up to 60 °C; maintaining this limit requires ambient temperatures not exceeding 50 °C or the use of forced air. The permitted storage temperature ranges from -55 °C to 70 °C, supporting storage in a broad range of conditions. During fault recovery, the drive disables its output within 500 µs to protect the connected motor. The assembly weighs only 1.0 lb, making it suitable for installation in space-constrained control panels.
