The 6410-001-N-H-N stepper motor driver is produced by Pacific Scientific as part of the 6410 Stepper Drives series. It serves as an intermediary between a motion controller and a two-phase hybrid stepper motor, modulating supply power into precise phase currents so that discrete pulse trains translate into exact shaft angles. In automated packaging, semiconductor fabrication, or test equipment, the unit provides open-loop positioning without requiring servo feedback.
During operation, a two-phase bipolar chopper circuit energizes the motor windings, while a step-and-direction control interface accepts TTL-level command pulses. The internal switching network runs at 20 kHz, a frequency high enough to move audible ripple beyond the human hearing range and reduce current ripple in the motor. Incoming pulse trains can reach 2 MHz, permitting very fine microstep resolution when requested by a controller. The driver can deliver up to 7.1 A of peak phase current and maintains 5 A RMS, providing adequate torque capacity for midsize NEMA 34 motors. The step input has an on-current of 5.5 mA, allowing typical optically isolated outputs to switch reliably. A logic-low signal presents only 0.5 V at 2 mA, minimizing ground offsets. Because dissipation is concentrated on the included heat sink, the chassis surface may reach a maximum temperature of 60 °C before derating is required.
The compact housing measures 82.55 mm deep and 39.62 mm wide with the heat sink installed. Its overall height is 104.90 mm, allowing installation where mounting space is limited. Motor phases exit through a keyed PCD ELVH0510 connector, while supply power enters through a matching PCD ELVH0310 plug. Control signals are carried through a 9-contact female D-subminiature interface. The housing dimensions allow the drive to fit on crowded DIN mounting plates, while the separate motor, supply, and control connections support organized cable routing within an enclosure.
