The MPS45A is a DC power supply unit produced by Okuma within the MPS Power Supplies series. It converts incoming plant mains into regulated DC power for servo amplifiers, spindle drives, and control logic in automated machine tools. By integrating the control and power boards in one housing, the unit centralizes power conditioning and alarm supervision for nearby automation hardware. This layout keeps the DC supply stage and its monitoring functions in the same enclosure, which helps the drive system operate from a common power source.

This supply accepts a three-phase AC input and delivers a rated output capacity of 45 kW, which is equivalent to 60 hp. An internal protection circuit trips if the incoming line exceeds 253 Vrms, helping protect the semiconductors from overvoltage conditions. The unit uses a power regeneration type design, so energy returned during motor deceleration is sent back to the plant mains instead of being dissipated as extra heat in the DC bus section. Two power boards handle rectification and chopper operation, while a separate control board supervises current balance, fault logging, and the dedicated heat-sink sensor that triggers Alarm Code 13 when temperature rises too high. The cooling section uses two axial fans, and dedicated fan connectors link each motor to the monitoring circuitry.

The cabinet footprint measures 325 mm in depth, 380 mm in height, and 150 mm in width, allowing the supply to mount beside drive amplifiers in a standard CNC rack. With a mass of 13.5 kg, the unit remains manageable during cabinet installation, and the chassis is rigid enough to support the M6 XT1 and M10 XT2 terminal screws used for bus and ground conductors. External cooling fans move air directly across the two finned heat sinks, and the fan motor connectors let the control board monitor speed feedback and stop the unit if airflow is lost. The enclosure dimensions also leave room for adjacent modules while maintaining a direct airflow path across the power section.
