The MPS-20B power module is manufactured by Okuma as part of the MPS Power Supplies series. Classified as a DC power supply unit, it produces a regulated link voltage that feeds servo amplifiers and spindle drives used in CNC machining centers, lathes, and automated production cells. By providing stable DC energy and charge monitoring, the module allows motion controllers to execute rapid positioning, tool changes, and regenerative braking without power disturbances that could interrupt an automated cycle. This role places the module between the incoming supply and the motion system during repeated acceleration and deceleration.

During operation, the supply draws logic power from a dedicated control input of 24 VDC, while its main converter maintains an internal bus at 300 VDC for the connected axis amplifiers. If the mains voltage rises above 253 Vrms at the input terminals, an overvoltage trip isolates the circuit to protect both the module and downstream drives. The onboard capacitor bank can be recharged and returned to operating readiness in 2 min, reducing delays after maintenance or an emergency stop. When paired with Okuma regenerative amplifiers, the unit can return braking energy to the grid. With a mechanical load equivalent to 27 hp, this reduces excess heat during deceleration and avoids wasting that energy in braking resistors. The design uses a power regeneration topology, blending the DC link with a bidirectional line converter so deceleration energy is exported instead of being dissipated as heat.

With a rated capacity of 20 kW, the supply can support multiple axes that demand high simultaneous current without voltage sag. The enclosure is only 150 mm wide, while the chassis stands 380 mm tall and extends 325 mm deep, allowing the module to fit into crowded electrical cabinets without sacrificing a practical internal layout. Its mass of 11.8 kg keeps handling manageable during installation or removal. The narrow profile also leaves room for cable routing and adjacent drive modules inside the panel.
