The MPR is a DC power supply unit manufactured by Okuma for the MPS Power Supplies series. It delivers the regulated DC link and low-voltage logic power required by Okuma axis motor drives in CNC machining centers and other automated equipment. By converting three-phase mains power into a stabilized internal bus, the module provides consistent energy to connected servo amplifiers. Its integrated regeneration circuit dissipates energy returned by motors during deceleration, preventing excess voltage from accumulating on the DC bus. The unit is intended for installation within a control cabinet as part of a coordinated drive system.
The module furnishes a control output of 24 VDC for drive interface electronics, while the main DC bus operates at 300 VDC for rapid power exchange with connected inverters. An input overvoltage trip activates at 253 Vrms, allowing upstream protection to disconnect the line before semiconductor components experience excessive electrical stress. Surplus kinetic energy is dissipated through a resistor-based regeneration network rather than being returned to the utility supply. System status and fault information appear on a 7-segment LED display, allowing operating conditions to be checked directly at the module. The supply supports only axis motors and does not include a Controller ID switch, which reduces the number of settings required when multiple units occupy the same cabinet.
Two frame ratings allow the supply capacity to be matched to axis power demand and available enclosure space. The higher-rated MPR10 supplies 10 kW continuously, has dimensions of 380 × 100 × 325 mm, and weighs 8.0 kg. For lower power demand or narrower cabinet layouts, the MPR5 version provides 5 kW continuously, has dimensions of 380 × 60 × 325 mm, and weighs 5.4 kg. Both versions can be positioned along a common mounting line because their height and depth are compatible, although their widths and thermal loads differ. The appropriate version depends on the combined power demand of the connected axes and the permissible temperature rise within the drive compartment.
