Product Description:
The MIV30A-3-V5 inverter module is built by Okuma for the MIV Servo Drives series. It supplies regulated DC energy to connected servo amplifiers, allowing coordinated axis motion in CNC machining centers. A five-bit controller-ID switch assigns the drive’s network address, allowing the machine control to distinguish the module from other devices on the same communication path. A dedicated control circuit accepts 24-volt logic so the unit can sequence on independently of the main bus and maintain control availability before the power stage is enabled. By converting the shared DC link into usable drive power, the unit performs a central role in machine tool automation.
The control section is fed by 24 VDC, while the main DC link operates at 300 VDC; separating these rails keeps the logic stable during input fluctuations. Power available to the left-hand output terminals reaches 30 kW, which is equivalent to 40 hp, so the unit can energize high-torque spindle or axis drives without an auxiliary supply. Cabinet layout is aided by a frame only 150 mm wide, and the lower terminals use M10 screws for high-current connections, whereas the upper bus bars fasten with M6 hardware. Two external cooling fans move air across the heat sink, and their rotation is monitored so a loss of airflow can trigger an alarm.
The assembly has an overall height of 380 mm, a depth of 325 mm, and a weight of 12.5 kg, permitting vertical rack mounting without heavy bracing. Cooling-system supervision issues an AL / 05 code if either fan stalls, allowing a preventive shutdown before thermal limits are reached. The upper screw set carries the main DC bus, while a separate lower ground lug completes the protective earth path. This arrangement keeps protective grounding distinct from the power terminals and provides a direct route for fault current within the cabinet.
