The MIV30-3-B5 inverter unit is produced by Okuma as part of the MIV Servo Drives series. Acting as an axis power module, it converts the plant’s three-phase supply into a regulated DC link and then modulates that energy for synchronous and spindle motors used on CNC machine tools. Within an automation cell it works with Okuma control hardware to deliver dynamic speed and torque regulation, forming the electrical interface between the numerical controller and the mechanical drive train.
Its control section is based on the ICB3 board, a logic platform that manages gating signals, diagnostics, and parameter storage. The board is energized by a dedicated control supply of 24 VDC, so logic remains active during main power interruptions for fault reporting and safe shutdown. Motor energy is sourced from a DC bus maintained at 300 VDC, enabling rapid current rise and regenerative deceleration. On the L output side the inverter can sustain 40 hp (continuous) or the metric equivalent of 30 kW, which defines the maximum mechanical load that can be driven without derating. A ROM type 5 device retains firmware and axis tuning data, allowing quick replacement without reprogramming.
For cabinet planning the enclosure measures 325 mm deep, 380 mm high, and 300 mm wide, so adjacent modules must be spaced to preserve airflow across the heatsink. Installation technicians must account for a mass of 24.0 kg when selecting panel supports and handling equipment.
