Product Description:
The MIV22-3-V1 inverter unit is produced by Okuma within the MIV Servo Drives series. As an inverter unit, it pairs with the manufacturer’s servo drives to convert DC bus energy into regulated three-phase output for a single axis and to return regenerative power to the link. In automated machine tools, this module coordinates drive torque, speed, and position through the shared servo, encoder, and converter link. It serves as the electrical link between the CNC control and the mechanical feed system during axis motion.
It draws control logic power from 24 VDC, which keeps diagnostic circuits active when the main power is isolated. The main DC link requires 300 VDC, supplied by the spindle power source, to energize the IGBT bridge that drives the motor windings. The nominal L-side output is 22 kW, equivalent to 30 hp, which suits medium machining-center axes. Because the unit is rated for 1 controlled axis, its current sensing and gating are dedicated to a single servo channel. Cooling is handled by internal and external fans that move air through the heat sink and enclosure vents, while communication between the drive, encoder feedback, and converter boards is carried on the integrated servo, encoder, and converter bus.
The housing measures 380 mm in height, 150 mm in width, and 325 mm in depth, giving the unit a cabinet-friendly shape for vertical mounting. It weighs 11.2 kg, which supports manageable handling during installation. Operational status, alarms, and axis codes appear on a front-mounted 7-segment LED, allowing quick fault review without external tools. Power terminals accept M6 hardware at XT1 and M8 hardware at XT2, providing secure clamping for the DC bus and motor leads. The fan and vent arrangement helps keep internal component temperatures within normal operating limits during continuous duty.
