The MIV15-3-V5 is an inverter unit produced by Okuma and supplied within the MIV Servo Drives series. Designed for cabinet installation, the module converts DC-link energy from the machine’s power supply into precisely timed switching sequences that energize a single servo motor. By adjusting voltage vectors and monitoring motor feedback, it enables accurate velocity, position, and torque regulation for repeatable machining cycles and coordinated motion. The inverter operates as the power-control stage between the shared DC bus and the connected motor, allowing the machine controller to manage acceleration, deceleration, and steady operation.
With an applicable motor capacity of 15 kW, the drive can deliver the continuous power required by midsize spindles or feed axes. Its architecture supports 1 axis, which simplifies parameter management and field wiring within the control cabinet. Internal logic and interface circuits receive power from an auxiliary 24 VDC line, allowing control functions to remain active during interruptions to the main power supply. The power stage operates from a shared DC link rated at 300 VDC, so multiple inverters can use the same bus without individual rectifiers. The enclosure has a mass of 11.2 kg, which must be considered when selecting mounting supports and handling the module during installation. Secure attachment helps prevent movement caused by machine vibration and reduces mechanical stress on the connected terminals.
The signal-processing section uses the ICB3 control board, and the unit has Control ROM type 5 for compatibility with the corresponding Okuma control system.
