Product Description:
The MIV15-1-B5 is an Okuma inverter unit belonging to the MIV Servo Drives series. As a servo drive, it interfaces between the machine controller and a permanent-magnet BL/PREX motor. The unit modulates current and voltage so that industrial axes can follow programmed motion profiles with high accuracy. This closed-loop operation supports controlled acceleration, deceleration, positioning, and speed regulation in production machinery. The drive receives commands from the machine controller and adjusts its electrical output in response to the motor’s operating requirements.
This model has a power rating of 15 kW (20 hp), providing suitable output for medium-frame production machinery. It controls 1 axis and supports BL-MP300J-30, BL-MP400J-25, and BL-MP500J-20 motors, allowing the connected motor to be selected according to the required torque and inertia. A 300 VDC DC bus receives regenerated energy from decelerating loads. The control electronics operate from a separate 24 VDC supply, which keeps the control circuit independent of the main DC bus. Device addressing within a multi-axis rack is set with a 5-bit controller ID switch, providing up to 32 unique drive addresses without external address wiring. This addressing arrangement allows multiple inverter units to communicate within the same machine control system while retaining an individual controller identity.
The enclosure has a depth of 325 mm, a height of 380 mm, and a width of 150 mm, allowing the drive to fit in densely populated electrical enclosures while maintaining space for heat-sink airflow. Its mass of 11.2 kg limits the load placed on the mounting panel or slide-out rack. An internal fan removes heat during operation, and the dedicated AL 05 alarm indicates a fan fault that could impair cooling. When commanded torque rises sharply, the unit can provide a maximum torque ratio of 300%, helping compatible BL/PREX motors overcome static friction during rapid indexing cycles. The compact enclosure and forced airflow arrangement allow the power electronics to operate within the available cabinet space without requiring a separate external cooling assembly.
