The MIV08-3-VAC inverter unit is produced by Okuma for the MIV Servo Drives series. It supplies pulse-width-modulated output to a single servo channel and accepts command and feedback links from an upstream CNC controller. In a machining center or other automated cell, the module regulates motor torque and speed while monitoring internal status data for the system supervisor. Its single-channel design allows the controller to manage one connected motor axis through the drive rack.
The control section is powered by a dedicated 24 VDC service rail that keeps the logic active even when the main link is de-energized. Motor energy is drawn from a shared DC bus rated at 300 VDC, so multiple axes can recover power through common braking hardware. Continuous drive capacity reaches 7.5 kW (10 hp), matching medium-frame servomotors on feed or spindle axes. A speed monitor port is scaled at 1562 rpm/V, allowing the CNC to translate the analog feedback into revolutions per minute without additional calibration. For load verification, the torque monitor delivers a full-scale signal of 3 V. The unit operates as a single-axis node on the motion network, and its 5-bit controller ID switch allows a unique identity to be assigned within the drive rack.
