Product Description:
The MIV08-1-B3 is a single-axis inverter unit manufactured by Okuma and supplied within the MIV Servo Drives series. It converts the regulated DC-link voltage from the shared bus into phase-controlled AC power for a feed axis in a CNC machine tool. By delivering precisely regulated current and voltage to the connected servomotor, the module enables position, speed, and torque control synchronized with the machine’s numerical program. The device serves as the power interface between the motion controller and the mechanical slide or spindle under its control.
The drive supports one controlled axis, simplifying the cabinet layout because internal multiplexing of current sensors is unnecessary. Internal logic and gate drivers operate from a 24 VDC control supply, while the power section receives a 300 VDC bus. This arrangement allows the unit to draw energy from a common regenerative link shared with other modules. At the motor terminals, the unit can sustain a continuous output of 7.5 kW (10 hp), which is suitable for many medium-sized linear or rotary axes on turning centers. The frame has a width of 100 mm, enabling dense side-by-side mounting so multiple axis modules can fit inside standard 600-mm-deep enclosures without external heat sinks.
The inverter has a height of 380 mm and a depth of 325 mm, allowing the cooling channels to face the rear of the electrical cabinet. This orientation directs warm air toward the top plenum and supports orderly airflow around adjacent drive modules. The inverter is compatible with the BL Motor and PREX Motor families, allowing machine builders to select standard high-response or high-torque windings for the application. Motor compatibility is maintained without requiring changes to the physical arrangement of the shared DC rail. Its thermal management and fault signaling operate consistently with other Okuma drive models connected to the same rail, supporting centralized monitoring and coordinated fault reporting across the machining platform.
