Product Description:

The MIV06-1-B5 is an inverter unit from Okuma’s MIV Servo Drives series. The module serves as the power interface between a CNC controller and a servo motor, turning common-bus DC energy into three-phase AC for motion with tight torque control. By integrating gating circuitry, protective functions, and diagnostic signaling, it allows automated milling, turning, and handling equipment to position tools or payloads with repeatable accuracy. It is installed inside the machine cabinet, where it cooperates with companion converters and encoders to form a closed-loop axis.

Internally, the drive uses a logic rail of 24 VDC for processor, gate-array, and sensor power, while the power stage draws from the plant’s 300 VDC bus. The L-side inverter can supply up to 8 hp (6.0 kW) to a connected BL or PREX motor, enabling mid-range spindle or feed-axis duties. Regenerative energy is routed to the external brake resistor designated DBR8 to help prevent overvoltage trips. Rotor position and temperature signals return through the D02-M15SAG-13L9 (JAE) feedback port, where a built-in control board loaded with Control ROM Type 5 code processes them alongside servo, encoder, and converter link data. DC bus energy can be shared with neighboring inverters, and a five-bit controller ID switch assigns a unique address so the host CNC can poll the unit over the backplane.

For cell layouts that dedicate one drive per mechanism, the single-channel architecture is suitable. The 1-axis configuration is governed by the vector-based control kernel labeled ICB1. Mains entry is through the 1-179276-2 (AMP) connector, and low-level command or alarm traffic is carried on the 53460-0611 (Molex) signal header. These segregated paths limit crosstalk and simplify fault isolation. After encoder initialization, the control board can recognize BL and PREX motor tables automatically for proper motor matching.
