The MIV04-3-V5 inverter unit is produced by Okuma within the MIV Servo Drives series. Designed as an interface between the machine controller and a single VAC servo motor, the drive conditions power and executes velocity and torque commands for precise axis positioning in automated machine tools. As an Okuma inverter unit, it fits into the manufacturer’s modular motion platform and communicates over the proprietary Servo Link fieldbus for synchronized multi-axis operation.
The internal control logic is configured to govern one axis. Motor energy originates from a shared DC bus, and the unit accepts 300 VDC through its power terminals while returning excess kinetic energy to the same rail. Logic and fan circuits draw a separate 24 VDC control supply so that parameter memory and diagnostics remain active during main-bus shutdowns. When paired with a VAC-type servo rated at 1.1 kW, the current loops operate at high bandwidth to use the motor’s continuous torque range. Cyclic data, status words, and alarms are transferred through the Servo Link network, eliminating analog wiring and providing deterministic update times below one millisecond. Regenerative operation allows energy produced during deceleration to return to the common bus for use by other connected drive modules.
The enclosure is 60 mm wide, allowing adjacent inverters to occupy limited cabinet space while maintaining the required separation for cooling. Its vertical body measures 380 mm high and extends 325 mm from the mounting plane, so the cabinet must provide adequate depth and airflow around the heat sinks. A mass of 5.7 kg supports manual handling during installation without lifting equipment. The Servo Link ports and motor power terminals are positioned on the faceplate, providing direct access to communication and power connections. The unit installs in Okuma’s rack system beside compatible spindle inverters and I/O modules. Its narrow front profile allows several motion modules to be arranged across a cabinet panel without requiring excessive horizontal space.
