The MIP22 is a servo drive unit manufactured by Okuma as part of the MIV Servo Drives series. Designed for multi-axis CNC systems and general automation, the module supplies regulated DC power and processes closed-loop velocity commands for connected servo amplifiers, allowing synchronized motion across several machine axes. It combines feedback processing, protective diagnostics, and power distribution within a cabinet-mounted enclosure. This arrangement allows the host controller to handle interpolation and part-program execution while the drive system manages axis power and motion feedback.
On the left-side power bus, the module can transmit 22 kW, or about 30 hp, of continuous power for medium-frame spindle or axis motors. A DC bus current scale of 176 A/V converts the shunt-resistor voltage into the corresponding bus current, while the phase-output monitor uses a 131.1 A/V ratio to measure individual motor current. The internal tachometer interface is calibrated at 6250 rpm/V, allowing the controller to monitor high-speed shafts without additional scaling. A single high-speed loop supports up to 8 axes, and the built-in DC supply eliminates the need for an external rectifier section. Four M8 mounting holes secure the unit inside the cabinet. The enclosure measures 750 mm high, 310 mm wide, and 290 mm deep, while the required control-panel cutout measures 733 mm high by 289 mm wide.
The differential fiber loop supports a total cable length of 100 m, allowing communication across distributed machine layouts. An individual cable between units can extend up to 25 m without repeater hardware. Voltage supervision uses an error-detection scale of 1/42, providing detailed monitoring of DC bus disturbances during rapid load changes. The unit has a mass of 43 kg, so the control panel and its mounting supports must accommodate the installed load. Cable routing should also preserve the permitted fiber lengths and provide adequate clearance around the enclosure. The stated current-monitoring ratios can be used when interpreting diagnostic signals from the DC bus and motor phases.
